What’s your biggest accomplishment in cosplay since you’ve started?
I would have to say, being interviewed for Marvel LIVE at NYCC and being featured, as their Costober spotlight was awesome! Senpai noticed me 😀
What do you think you’ve learned the most about yourself since starting?
I learned to be confident with my body and confident with who I am. I’ve accepted that I’ve got a couple of screws loose in my head, but that’s okay!
What has been the most challenging aspect of cosplay?
The stress of having to pack for conventions and deciding what to bring; and praying nothing is forgotten.
How would you describe the cosplay community in 4 words?
The community itself: Fun. Accepting. Helpful. Inspiring.
The hobby: Expensive. Stressful. Fun. Dramatic.
What about Mortal Kombat makes you nerd out?
I’ve been playing the game for 20 years now, so it’s always been a part of my childhood and adulthood. I love the characters (well..the main ones) and how, while it’s a fighting game, there’s still always something new to do on it (different combos, unlocking different costumes, endings, online play, etc) The MK/fighting game community is also pretty tight-knit.
The cosplay community can also be pretty cliquey, but the MK community isn’t, which is yet another reason I nerd out so much for MK.
Who’s your favorite MK character?
Male character is Sub Zero, female is Kitana. But if I HAD to pick it would be Sub Zero. HANDS DOWN.
What would your MK name and fatality be?
THE PRESSURE. I DON’T KNOW. I can be the love child of Sub Zero and Kitana. Subtana…And I can…freeze the fool and give them the kiss of death, and they explode, and…the end /dropsmic
Other artsy things you do outside of costuming?
I’ve mastered the art of sarcasm. In all seriousness, photography and photo retouching. I’m currently learning special effects for photos.
Does dealing with inappropriate comments and behavior on social media ever become taxing?
Not at all because I don’t care. There is no reason for me to waste my time or energy on negativity. The problem with these comments is that these people would never have the balls to ever confront me or tell me their feelings in person.
Your most embarrassing convention moment?
Surprisingly, I haven’t had one. Probably because I’m not easily embarrassed.
Pizza or Hamburgers?
Hamburgers….please add cheese! Yes. I’m aware it’s an extra 50 cents!
One thing that you would like to yell at the world about? *strong language and exclamation points encouraged*PIP PIP MOTHERFUCKERRRRR !! U3984U3!!!!!121!!!!!! RAWWWWWWWRRRRAZDFGLMK!
And on that note, we must conclude our interview with the adorkable Jaycee. Well adjusted, confident, and perhaps suffering from turrets.
