Lots of news in this past week, so let’s get started! Here’s the biggest pop culture stories from March 28-April 3.

Casting News

According to reports, not only is a New Mutants movie in development from Fox, but it also has its first three cast members. Hitfix has reported that Game of ThronesMaisie Williams will play the role of Wolfsbane aka Rahne Sinclair, The Witch‘s Anya Taylor-Joy will play Illya Rasputin aka Magik and Alexandra Shipp will return as Storm with James McAvoy playing a significant role in the film as well. The same report also mentions that the studio is casting Cannonball, Sunspot, and Mirage, to join the team. The film is being directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars).

Another casting for Marvel was made and yet it was another Game of Thrones actress. Jessica Henwick has landed the role of Colleen Wing in the Netflix series, Iron Fist. Colleen Wing will be an important ally to Iron Fist as he returns home to New York. There has been no premiere date for the series set.

Oscar-winning actress, Patty Duke, has passed away at the age of 69. Duke died of complications from a ruptured intestine. In 1963, Duke won an Oscar at the age of 16 from her performance in The Miracle Worker. In 1972, Duke married actor John Astin (Addams Family) and the two would have a son together, Sean Astin. Patty Duke suffered from manic depression. Sean Astin is carrying on her legacy with the Patty Duke Mental Health Project.

Legendary composer, Hans Zimmer, has announced that he will no longer compose anymore superhero movies. What a bummer. Zimmer composed all three of Christopher Nolan‘s Batman films and most recently composed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. When discussing providing the score for BvS, Zimmer said “This one was very hard for me to do, to try to find new language.”

New Images Released

New images from the set of Marvel’s Doctor Strange were released this past week and they look awesome. But one of the photos is grabbing people’s attention more than the rest and it’s because it’s the first look at a mysterious villain played by Mads Mikkelsen. It’s not known who the villain is but we get a pretty good glimpse of what he looks like. Any clues to who you think Mikkelsen may be playing? Marvel’s Doctor Strange hits theaters Nov. 4, 2016.

That does it for Weekend News Recap. Comeback again later this week to get all the biggest pop culture news.
